Trezor is a hardware wallet that stores your crypto private keys offline. This guide gives a clear, practical setup process for a new Trezor device, whether you're using Trezor Model T or Model One. Follow every step carefully β hardware wallets are only as secure as the setup.

Open the official site on your computer to download Trezor Suite or follow web-based onboarding. Always verify the URL and certificate. We strongly recommend downloading the official Trezor Suite app for desktop for the smoothest experience.
Use the supplied cable to connect the Trezor to your computer. If prompted, allow the browser to access the device. Don't install unofficial drivers β use the prompts from trezor.io.
Download and run the official Trezor Suite, which will guide firmware updates (if needed) and wallet setup. Follow on-screen instructions and approve actions on the device display when asked.
When prompted, choose to create a new wallet. The device will generate a recovery seed phrase (typically 12, 18 or 24 words). Write it down exactly in the order shown. Store copies in separate secure locations.
Choose a PIN on the device. The PIN prevents unauthorized physical use. Make it memorable to you but hard to guess. The device will never show the PIN on your computer screen.
Trezor will ask you to confirm parts of the recovery phrase and may perform a device verification. Confirm everything matches your written backup.
Before moving large amounts, receive a small test transaction to verify the addresses and flow are correct.
For maximum security, always verify receiving addresses on the device screen before sending funds. This prevents man-in-the-middle attacks where a compromised computer shows a different address than the hardware device.
You can generate the seed offline by using an air-gapped installation, but connecting to Trezor Suite or trezor.io might be necessary for firmware updates and coin support. Advanced users use offline setups for additional security.
If you have your recovery phrase, you can restore your wallet on a new device or compatible wallet. If you also lost your recovery phrase, the funds are likely unrecoverable.
Yes: Ledger, Coldcard, and other hardware wallets exist. But follow vendor-specific setup instructions and purchase from official channels.
